What does the Saugus Veterans Council do?

We are responsible for the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony, Veterans Day, as well as annual ceremonies for 9/11, POW-MIA Remembrance Day, Flag Day and more.

Membership is free to our Veterans!

If you are a veteran residing in the Town of Saugus, you are a member!  In addition, if you do not live in Saugus but are a member of the Saugus American Legion, the Saugus VFW or the Saugus DAV, then you, too, are a member.

Our By-Laws

Veterans Council By-Laws
SECTION 1:
ARTICLE 1
The official name shall be “The Saugus Veterans Council”, hereafter known as the “Council”.
SECTION 1:
ARTICLE 2
The purpose of the Council shall be to ensure continuity between the Town of Saugus and The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2346, The American Legion, Post 210 and The Disabled American Veterans, Post 115, and any other duly chartered veterans organizations in the Town of Saugus, as well as any member of the above-mentioned Saugus veterans organizations not residing in the Town of Saugus, to form all military and patriotic parades, celebrations and ceremonies for the benefit of the Town of Saugus.
SECTION 1:
ARTICLE 3
Dues shall be determined by the Council and will be paid by the first annual meeting of the Council in January of each year.
SECTION 2:
The Town Manager is a member in good standing by virtue of his office.
SECTION 3:
The Officers of the Council shall consist of Commander, Executive Officer, Finance Officer, Recording Secretary, Public Affairs Officer and any other officers as determined by the Council.
SECTION 4:
The Commander, Finance Officer and Recording Secretary shall be elected each year and all others shall be appointed by the Commander with approval of the Council.
SECTION 5:
The Commander shall preside over all meetings and shall appoint all working committees with the approval of the Council.
SECTION 6:
The Finance Officer shall keep all financial records and meet all financial obligations.  He shall make a financial report at all Council meetings or to the Commander if unable to attend.  Financial records shall be made available at all times to the Commander.  The Commander or Treasurer will be authorized to sign all checks.
SECTION 7:
The Recording Secretary shall keep accurate records of the minutes of all meetings of the Council.
SECTION 8:
The Public Affairs Officer shall keep the public aware of the Veterans Council and upcoming events.
SECTION 9:
In the absence of the Commander, the Executive Officer shall preside over the meetings.

ARTICLE 4
Delegates to the Council shall consist of any members identified in ARTICLE 2, SECTION 1 wishing to attend meetings.  
SECTION 2:
Nominations and Election of Officers shall occur during the first regularly scheduled Council meeting of the calendar year.
SECTION 3:
The Commander shall be elected by the members in attendance at the first regularly scheduled Council meeting of the calendar year.
SECTION 4:
The Commander shall be elected by the members in attendance at the first regularly scheduled Council meeting of the calendar year.
SECTION 1:
ARTICLE 5
Parades shall consist of the following: Commander, Grand Marshall, Officer of the Day and two or more Assistant Officers of the Day
SECTION 2:
The Council shall appoint the Grand Marshall.
SECTION 3:
The Commander shall welcome the public and lead the public in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
SECTION 4:
The Council shall appoint the Master of Ceremonies.
SECTION 5:
The Officer of the Day and Assistant Officers of the Day shall form the parade.
SECTION 6:
The Officer of the Day shall be appointed by the Council and he will appoint his assistants.
